Description: On the basis of the analysis of scientific literature sources and relying on their own experience, the authors of the article pay special attention to the art of sculpture in its historical development and the importance of volumetric images for the educational process in schools and higher educational institutions. The animalist genre is considered separately. The authors consider sculptural images of animals both in antiquity and made by our contemporaries; images of sacred animals in ancient times as an object of worship; allegorical symbols and such a particularly interesting type of art as satirical allegory. The aesthetic meaning of sculpture in general and sculptural depiction of animals in particular.
